Song lyrics

As Her Autumnsong Called

`The coloured leaves dance in the wind,
like on the day when we first met.´
`I saw thou dance in misty veils,
temptation on a leafy bed.´
`I danced alone, lost in a dream,
by none but moonbeams I was kissed.´
`A sweeter maid I´d never seen,
clad in thy veils of woven mist.´

`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
Like gold fall the leaves in the wind!´
`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
As her autumnsong begins.´

`Sweet little lass, thou danceth alone,
don´t run away, stay where thou art!´
`Who art thou that thou stareth at me
when I can´t see thou in the dark?´
`A traveller who heard thy song,
saw thou and fell under thy spell.´
`No magic powers I possess,
yet come and drink from my sweet well.´

`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
Like gold fall the leaves in the wind!´
`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
As her autumnsong begins.´

`Leave thy world behind, listen to thine heart,
A magic world thou wilt find, a place sung by the bards.
Step onto my path, where the river runs along,
Up towards the stars, with my autumn song.´

`Enshrouded by the dark night´s cloak,
thou holdst me sweetly in thine arms.´
`I see thine eyes and feel thy warmth,
and shelter thou from all that harms.´
`O lay thy hand upon my heart
and kiss the raindrops from my face.´
`Enwrap me with thy velvet hair
and drown me in thy warm embrace.´

`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
Like gold fall the leaves in the wind!´
`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
As her autumnsong begins.´

`Where wilt thou go, my fairy child,
and leave me to a mournful day?´
`The sun it burns so hot and bright,
by light of moon I love to play.´
So take me with thou, where thou goeth,
for I can´t live if we depart.´
`So come, yet nothing thou wilt find,
for all I can give is my heart.´

`Leave thy world behind, listen to thy heart,
A magic world thou´ll find, a place sung by the bards.
Step onto my path, where the river runs along,
Up towards the stars, with my autumn song.´

`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
Like gold fall the leaves in the wind!´
`Ai! lauri lantar lassi súrinen!
As her autumnsong begins.´

Seeking Juliet

Elizabethian kisses in a moonlight rendez-vous
On a balcony there is Juliet - or is Juliet just you?
I´m a masked pilgrim on the quest for the holy grail
Look at me, how can I fail - when I´m seeking Juliet?
I´m seeking Juliet...

I tried to act as in the lines, I learned his words by heart
But up there on your balcony you knew not how to start.
`I swear eternal love to thee´ - but you did only laugh at me.
And when I swam right through the poisonous sea your love didn´t keep me dry.
I´m seeking Juliet...

I dreamed of seeking Juliet, and now I just cannot forget
Her lips, her eyes, her rosy cheeks -
where has my heart been all these weeks?
I wooed, but - alas - I wooed in vain,
her gentle eyes only caused me pain.
Maybe 14 years are not enough to understand this Romeo´s love.
I´m seeking Juliet...
No more, no more, no more.

'Give me my Romeo, and when he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night.'

I dreamed of seeking Juliet, but dreamers often lie, they said:
I heard your heart beat in the dark,
you woke up with the singing lark,
I held your hand, I kissed your eyes -
yet all these dreams were naught but lies.
Romance lies shattered in ist grief, like porcellain on the wedding-eve.

So was all my love a waste of time,
My Juliet just Rosaline?
You gave me poison by your kiss
And left my heart in emptiness.

Were all the words you said just lies,
My love just mirrored by your eyes?
I dreamed the dream, I loved and lost,
I nearly touched the grail, but now the dream is over,
I´m seeking Juliet no more.

Trollvinter

A wind from the North carries dark clouds of snow
Like an avalanche drowning the dale
In the white valley lit by the pallid moon´s glow
Dancing snowflakes like fairies so frail.
The denizens tremble and shiver with cold
Their fear makes them sleepless at night,
By the fireside tales of the world´s end are told
Fenris will be at Trollvinter´s side.

The mountains will groan when his tread shakes the ground
And the trees under snowloads will sigh.
The creatures of twilight will come by his sound
But the wild beasts will hide from his eye.
The people will lock every window and door
When the wind´s roaring outside their walls.
The flickering fire cannot warm anymore
When Trollvinter passes the hall.

For Trollvinter has been awakened from sleep
By the wind´s wailing voice in the night
He will bury the world under cold ice so deep
Till at last every memory has died.
Fimbulvinter will reign with his odem of frost
Frozen bones will crack under his claw
Before Surtur with flaming sword leads on the host
As the prophetess Völva foresaw.

When all land is cold and there´s no place to hide
Then the Fairy Queen will be his prey
Dark clouds hide the moon at midwinter´s night
When she finally crosses his way.
Her soft wings grown numb by the coldness will fail her
In the snow she will lie so alone
She ceases to fight as his hand lifts her up
As a frozen Queen unto his throne.

Cuiviénen
(Waters of Awakening)

i. cuivë quendion lómessë
(the awakening of the Elves in darkness)

Endless night, not sun nor moon
Was born, when deep in Arda´s womb
The Elves awoke under the stars
And dwelt there in the dark
Down at lake Cuiviénen´s shores
The children of the light
And shadows gathered to their doom
Hidden by the night.

Down at the lake overshadowed by trees
We glanced at the sky from shadowless leas
And drank from the waters reflecting the stars
And our songs were of light for we dreaded the dark.
For those who did wander in the twilight alone
Were never seen again and their fate is unknown.
So we gathered in silence as darkness crept near
No longer could beautiful songs heal our fear.

ii. túlë Oromëo
(the coming of Orome)

Upon Cuiviénen the stars brightly shone
As we first opened our eyes and we sang the first song
Yet the sky is now clouded, silver leaves became dark
And the stars ceased to shine as fear clutched our hearts.

But - behold! - there a rider appeared in the night
His hair shining golden and his eyes gleaming bright.
And some welcomed him gladly, some hid filled with awe,
And the shadows they fled from the silver-lit shore.

"O firstborn of Eru, I bring you the word
of Manwe who is Lord of the West,
That you may live where the Valar do dwell
When the afterborn wake from their rest."

Thus he spoke and we sensed Eru´s will in his words
Therefore many were willing to part.
Yet others there were who still would refuse,
For dark fear overshadowed their hearts.

"O follow me now to that land in the West
Lit by stars and the light of Two Trees,
Where the Valar will welcome you warmly as guests,
In that land far beyond the great seas."

iii. namárië cuiviénello
(Farewell to Cuiviénen)

Standing at the shore with a veil upon my eyes
Knowing we´ll be gone long before the fire dies
Darkness lies ahead and there´s fear within my heart
Yet I won´t regret for I know we have to part.

Thus we leave this dooméd lands
Long time ere the first day´s dawning
Following the Vala´s light
And the forest sighs in mourning.

O you Elves who stay behind,
Know that still the hope remainés
That a day comes you will follow
May this not be the last farewell
the last farewell
farewell
namárië (lyrics by Jan; music by Jan, Nils, Falk, Maja)

Vanessa

Rain falls down from a grey autumn sky
The leaves are gone as are the birds
I just wanna write a song about you
But it´s hard to express my love in mere words.

And I just want to feel you
And I just want to kiss your sweet hair
And I just want to hear your voice
Do you know how much I care?

The candle is burning, but it spends little light
The trees are shaken by the storm
Outside the window the sky gets darker
If you were here you´d keep me warm.

´Cause I just can´t live without you
And still the rain´s falling down
And forever I will love you
You´re the sweetest girl I´ve known.

I´m thinking about you,
I´m dreaming of you;
Just can´t live without you,
Don´t you know our love is true?

And I just want to feel you
And I just want to kiss your sweet hair
And I just want to hear your voice
Do you know how much I care?

´Cause I just can´t live without you
And still the rain´s falling down
And forever I will love you
You´re the sweetest girl I´ve known.
